Being mixed race
In May 2019 we will be running a series of events around Being Mixed Race. Collaborating with Ujima Radio, The Wonder Club, Malcolm X centre, among others, we hope to begin the conversation that so often gets missed out.
‘Mixed Race’ is the largest growing demographic in Bristol, and the UK. As our cultures blend and mix in all kinds of ways, what effect does this have on the individual from a multi-heritage background? How do we identify ourselves? How do others identify us? How can we support our children better?
Following a week-long series of radio programs with Ujima, around being Mixed Race, there will be a day of events where we will get together and celebrate Being Mixed Race, and shine a light on the high’s and low’s that many of us have experienced, but might not have had the chance to share. It will be a day of conversation, but also of comedy, spoken word poetry, music and ‘theatre’. And it’s not just for those of us that are mixed race. We welcome open conversation to improve our understanding. We will create a safe space to talk about things that are sometimes hard to talk about.
We will also be running a series of Podcasts with support from Ujima radio and collaborating with The Wonder Club on their show around Being Mixed Race.
If you are mixed race, have children that are mixed race, have siblings that are mixed race and you would like to share your story, or be involved in some way, we would love to hear from you. Please contact us on email@example.com
